I only did what I thought was right. I have no regrets.
Even in this rotten world, I still want to walk down a path I can believe in!

BACKGROUND

i will...get to this... most pertinent information for the canon-blind is that Bruno is head of a bodyguard team within the Passione sect of the mafia in Naples, Italy, and swiftly becomes capo early in the series. i am working on a succinct and spoiler-minimized history section, stay tuned.

PERSONALITY

At first blush: Bruno is a guarded, charismatic gangster, methodical and sly to those he is not familiar with. He is protective down to the bone: of information, of his team, of a charge within his responsibility. He's ruthless, and can reach points of brutality if he feels it's necessary to his means. Methodical and cautious, he's dutiful and upholds his values even before becoming capo: to complete his missions, and protect his team.

Bruno is a pragmatic, compassionate, righteous person, and passionate about his causes. He feels deeply for the essence of family and protecting innocent people; due to personal experiences and losses, he vehemently despises drugs and their trade, and the cost of innocent civilians for other people's gain. His nature is righteous and caring for those who are in need, shown through his entire history of personal relationships. He chooses those who need assistance most, and provides for them whether they are his peers, people younger than him, or his own parent. He maintains responsibility and an unflincing demeanor, and when whittled down to threads, hinges on his unyielding resolve to persist through hardship.

Overall, Bruno is a brave but cautious person, ready to sacrifice himself in order to complete his mission, be it his job, or a personal task, but only if tactical maneuvers aren't enough. Still, he is willing to disarm himself or fully risk his life for his cause, or for his cohorts' lives and success. He has long-since earned the respect and trust of his team since assembling them, and exhibits support and calm praise when applicable, and assigns them tasks based on their strengths, tactical always. Toward those younger than himself, he tends to be sheltering and parental, and continues to exhibit his climates of stern but supportive, or kind and nurturing. (His youngest member, Narancia, joins the Organization despite his protestations that he live an honest life and finish school; even once Narancia finally joins his team through his own secret maneuvers, he is still shown being tutored by other members in school subjects in their down time.)

He has been shown as serious and quiet since childhood, but he can show warmth and care toward others. Usually, his focus on his mission and the safety of those around him leaves him seeming hardened or distant, and he can be shown to yell or demonstrate a firm approach toward others, but his severe delivery is not cruelly-intentioned. When lives aren't being actively risked, Bruno is still kind and pragmatic, stable for the benefit of those around him that he is supporting. He works for and belives in the Organization for the protection it can give, seeing it as a necessary alternative to the compromised system of law enforcement and civilian protection, but yearns for it to be free of its dangerous and shady operations. Until he meets the Jojo of this arc, Giorno, Bruno is a caged bird in the morally-ambiguous Organization, focusing his own efforts on virtue and assisting his piece of the city out of goodness and honorable intent.

ABILITIES

Stand Ability. Stands are a supernatural manifestation of a chosen person's soul, creating usually a themed ability for the Stand and/or its user to utilize, often in combat, but not always. Bruno's stand, Sticky Fingers, has the ability to manifest zippers at will - which is far from as stupid as it sounds on paper. These zippers can open anything they're placed on, becoming doorways to pass through, pockets to hide in, and can open into a hammerspace that Bruno can travel and conceal himself or items into. These zippers can also sever and disassemble anything, including inanimate objects, body parts, or himself, and it's down to his choice if this is non-fatal (no harm whatsoever) or can result in injury (really bad.) Subsequently, he can reattach anything that was severed by himself or by other means. Bruno creates countless uses for this power, from extending his range to fight, disabling an opponent, and moving up and down untraversable terrain freely or with stealth. The stand itself, Sticky Fingers, also has a powerful combat ability in a close range punching barrage.

Fighting. Apparently this guy is a practiced martial artist, considering some of the moves he pulls during fight scenes. Moreover, he has an incredibly tactical mind for both hand-to-hand combat, and assessing new Stands as he encounters them. He's a perceptive fighter, uses the environment around him to hide, move, and land attacks, and loves him some sneak-attacks.

Lie detection? Bruno claims he can tell when a person is lying by assessing physical manifestations of stress, and supposedly can detect a person's deception in the taste of their sweat (which is apparently sweet to the palette)... This is stated in canon during an interrogation, which could be interpreted as a big-talk move of intimidation against the other character (and he does...outright lick the guy's face eventually, which would be admittedly pretty startling to do to a stranger) but many like to call this an innate ability of Bruno's, which creates some fun headcanon about his capabilities. (Synesthesia headcanon, anyone?)

EXTRA

Sticky Fingers is named in reference to the 1971 Rolling Stones album by the same name, which featured as its album cover art a photo of a man's clothed pelvic area, but produced with a fully functioning zipper on the album's sleeve where the man's jeans showed having a zipper. Hirohiko Araki was inspired by this product gag to create a Stand that could produce functional zippers.
↳ this ties in to another Stand possessed by a separate minor character shown in Golden Wind, called Rolling Stone. but I'm not here to give spoilers!

Bucciarati / Buccellati is the dilemma of Bruno's surname, originally intended as Buccellati to fit the overarching food-name theme in Golden Wind. it is a type of baked confection in Italy, as well as a luxury-design jewelry and watch producing company... which lead to concerns and issues in the legal department if Araki chose to adhere to this name. to avoid problems, Bruno's name was, by and large, officiated in canon as Bucciarati.
↳ one very passionate and well-spoken youtuber proposed the theory that as the name 'Bruno' means 'brown' (specifically as a name, one with brown hair) in Italian, it might be a reference to brown sugar, which not only doubly-fits the food-name theme in this arc, but also happens to be a the name of the opening track of the aforementioned album Sticky Fingers. this is theorized because Bruno is not stylized with brown hair in the manga or animation, but with black/blue hair.

arranged marriages in Passione are not strictly common, but are certainly standard when an unmarried mobster is promoted to capo; mobsters do often marry if their line of work falls into the more pedestrian realms of the organization allowing for their personal lives to flourish, and are mainly not Stand users — but in these more dangerous and skill-heavy lines of work for the organization, and more commonly across Stand users, is there a constant theme of personal isolation. capos are leaders, and therefore symbols amongst the men that do the most laborious work in the famiglia; it's an important tradition that a newly-ordained capo represent the cornerstone concepts that the organization upholds. marriage is a tradition of family-building that the famiglia takes with some reverent seriousness.

single capos are therefore quickly arranged into marriage, a legally-binding partnership with a strategically-chosen leader from another group, pairings made based on the comparability or intentional combinations of their lines of work. this is a celebrated thing in Passione, to see a rising capo unanchored by anything in his life that may stand between him and his duty — to arrange marriage is to demonstrate the tightest bond with his duty, his relationship with the famiglia, and his connection with the Boss. to officiate this level of a business transaction is an incredible declaration to his commitment to Passione; no different than a man of the cloth or a sister of god taking their vows of celibacy or silence, honoring themselves wholly to their work. these marriages are created to merge two teams' strengths together and create a balanced function across dual skillsets, power from connections and information netted over their careers, and to create a formidable bond. rising any higher than capo has incredible prerequisites, and internal arrangement is the most fruitful foundation for any potential upward momentum to leap from. marriageship comes with power to govern and responsibility to uphold, a gift as much as it is a test.

but in the end, arranged marriages are truly business transactions — capos married to team leaders are not promised the luxury of romance and companionship, and there is infrequently a case of true love blossoming from these arrangements (though the bonds from close partnership and commitment built is always common.) weddings are far from classical fantasy galas, the meetings over negotiations and paperwork rarely more involved than any other contract-signing. capos or their legal spouses can die suddenly at worst...and maintain their personal and separate lives (and amores) at best; far be it a phenomenon to be frowned upon.

because that has nothing to do with business. so long as the symbol of the marriage holds up and the jobs are done, that is what matters to the famiglia.

Bucciarati knows that this will become part of the new title when they meet with Pericolo, but he is not surprised when Pericolo does not immediately address it in front of his team. the beginning procedures are done privately, tactfully and with respect, leaving the newly-laureled capo to deliver the news of his arrangement on his chosen terms (and perhaps arrange an intimate celebration, if applicable parties feel inclined.)

Abbacchio inquires about the detail first, privately and on the side, later on. 'You know anything yet about who they're pairing you up with?' the informality of the reference isn't made to save anyone's feelings.

Bucciarati stares ahead, as if the question hasn't fazed him. Abbacchio knows just enough to think that means that it has.

"I'll know soon."

'I hope he isn't an asshole,' Narancia's voice cracks through the conversation; uninvited, but apparently present despite the lack of an invitation, draped over the guard railing on the balcony above their heads. even he is anticipating the unspoken step coming next for Bucciarati's promotion.

Abbacchio glares upward. 'Whoever he is, him being an asshole will depend on you being a dipshit, shortbread.'
